Mickey Mouser
Born approx. May 11, 2002

Domestic Long Hair - Maine Coon

Bj found Mickey Mouser outside a building in August, 2002, and he was soaking wet from the storm that had just passed through. The people inside the building told her they had no idea where he came from; he just showed up one morning, and they had no intentions of doing anything with him. When she picked him up, he was light as a feather, and nothing but bones. You all should know by now how much I love cats, so even this little o' bird would have brought him home! Critter informed me that she could have come up with several solutions that didn't include bringing him here, but she doesn't fool me! It didn't take her long at all to begin watching over him and making sure he's safe now!
He appeared to be pretty healthy, other than extremely thin. He even looked dehydrated, and Bj knew he wouldn't make it on his own. She bought him some special kitten food, and he sure didn't waste any time eating it! He went to the vet's and everything turned out just fine. The vet said he was about 14 weeks old, and all the blood work came back negative.
He was totally infatuated with Mr. Nelson from the very first time they laid eyes on each other. You know, folks, Nelson never did allow another strange cat to stay on "his" property, but he accepted Mickey right from the start.....even if he did get irritated when he was trying to sleep, and Mickey wanted to play!
A couple of weeks before Nelson got sick, Mickey started doing something really strange; instead of waking him up to play, he would go over to him and start washing Nelson's forehead and ears. Nobody understood why he did that at the time. All they knew was that Nelson would start purring, and seemed to enjoy the attention he was getting from the little fella. Well, now we all understand that Mickey was the first one to sense that his buddy didn't feel good, and it was his way of trying to take care of his friend. Even though Mickey didn't have much time here with Mr. Nelson, we all know that he loved him and misses him just as much as the rest of us.

When Mysti joined the family, he welcomed her with "open paws". We kind of think he enjoys having another cat to play with, that's closer to his own age. Ya think?? We kept Mysti and her family separated from Mickey and Critter for the first month after the kittens were born, and he would sit by the bedroom door and wait patiently for when Mysti would come out for a break. Then when it came time for her to go back to her kittens, he would lay down by the door and wait until 'next time'. He seemed to know there was something going on inside the bedroom that needed her attention more. But when he finally got to meet them face to face, he quickly took over the role as "Uncle Mickey". He has thoroughly enjoyed raising them, just like the rest of us.
